5 Minutes With Bath Wedding and Event Manager Gabby

Gabby joined us as an Event Manager at Priston Mill near Bath, at the beginning of February 2020 after moving back from New Zealand in late 2019. Having worked in weddings previously she was very excited to join the team and get stuck in!

After a rollercoaster first year in the stunning Somerset countryside, we stole 5 minutes of Gabby’s day for a quick Q & A to find out more about her wedding venue job!

So Gabby, how did you end up where you are today?

I started off aged 21 working as a wedding-coordinator at a beautiful wedding venue in Devon, and (although I absolutely loved it!) after 18 months I decided to leave to explore the world, gathering experiences. I lived in New Zealand for three years and worked full time in Queenstown, the hub of hospitality in the South Island. After enjoying my time out there, I came to realise that my true passion was weddings and events and decided to move back to the UK with my other half to pursue the dream!

What do you look forward to during the wedding day itself?

My favourite part of the day is seeing the Bride arrive looking just beautiful in her wedding dress, accompanied by her closest friends and family. It’s just such a special moment and key for the photographer to sneak in those treasured shots! It is an honour, especially as I usually get to see the Bride before anyone else!

What invaluable lessons have you learned so far in your career?

Always make sure to allow for an extra vegetarian! No matter how precise the wedding plans are leading up to the big day, always allow for last minute changes. Our fantastic kitchen team are brilliant at this and always come extra prepared!

What is your favourite time of year to say 'I Do'?

Weddings hosted here at Prison Mill in Bath are gorgeous all year round. Autumn and winter weddings in such a rural countryside area are simply stunning with the frost covering the fields and making for those beautiful crisp photos. Spring weddings are so pretty with all of the flowers beginning to bloom and of course summer weddings are simply a classic with such plentiful outdoor spaces to use. My favourite would always have to be peak summer!

What is your top tip to planning a seamless wedding day?

My top tip to all our lovely brides and grooms would simply be to just relax and enjoy the day. Our experienced team have everything in hand, and will ensure the smooth running of the event. Your job is just to soak up every moment!

What is your favourite part of showing couples around the wedding venues here?

We're very fortunate to have two beautiful wedding venues here at Priston Mill which is very close to the wonderful city of Bath. It’s great to be able to show couples two very different venues, both finished to such a high standard. The Tythe Barn with its magnificent high ceilings, beams and rustic feel is quite different to the charming Watermill which will greet you with the gentle, rumbling sound of the ancient waterwheel, and enchant you with its parisienne-esq décor and quirky layout.

First dance song?

I mean it’s got to be Ed Sheeran hasn’t it? In all seriousness though, I do love the first dance, such a lovely moment after everyone’s had a glass of Champagne or two and relaxed into the day.
